I first recognised some symptoms of what I now know as the menopause back in 2017. I was driving along a country lane and had an overwhelming feeling of fear and loss of control. I thought it best I stop the car, turn the engine off and take a breath, but I felt so strange. I was shaking and felt I couldn’t drive any further. The following day I was in the process of organising a gathering at my house for some work colleagues, and the thought of it really panicked me, which was so unusual as I do love a party. I ended up cancelling the party.
On the Monday morning, I had a meeting with my boss. During the meeting, I completely lost my train of thought when he asked me a question. I also felt really tearful and couldn’t articulate my sentences.
I immediately booked an appointment with my GP and left the office as I recognised some of the symptoms probably related to the menopause, given my age. During the appointment with my GP, instead of recommending HRT, she said I would probably benefit from anti-depressants. I don’t have a history of depression, so urged her to prescribe me some HRT which, in the end, she agreed.
I was signed off work for a month and after week 3, I was starting to feel a bit more like my old self. However, after a few months, my symptoms reappeared.
After speaking to a close friend who was a patient of Dr Kalentzi, I was recommended to give her a call and it really is the best thing I did. During my first appointment, Dr Kalentzi went through a very long symptom questionnaire with me. It turned out I had ALL the menopausal symptoms described! As a result of the questionnaire, Dr Kalentzi was able to fine-tune the medication, and subsequently prescribed oestrogel to apply in the morning and a progesterone tablet to be taken at night.
Dr Kalentzi is an expert in her field, as well as being really empathetic and understanding. I had some reservations about taking HRT, due to the scare stories I had heard in the past about breast cancer. I was, however, reassured as she provided me with proven statistics about the risks and as it turns out, I was in the very low risk category.
After a couple of weeks of taking the medication Dr Kalentzi prescribed, I felt completely energised and almost like I had turned the clock back to my thirties. I had more energy and my confidence levels improved immensely. I see Dr Kalentzi for check-ups once year to see if my medication needs tweaking.
I would recommend anyone suffering from menopausal symptoms to see Dr Kalentzi. She literally saved me from resigning from my job! Everyone going through the menopause would benefit from Dr Kalentzi’s expertise. Every woman going through the perimenopause or menopause needs a Dr Kalentzi!
