I thought I had managed to miss the symptoms of menopause. I had reached 50 and mistakenly thought I was sailing through it.
However, I recall one morning I had a terribly ‘foggy’ head and had trouble getting out of bed for work, as if I had the flu. I had these symptoms regularly but did not think that it was a symptom of the menopause but rather it was just a regular headache. Other symptoms arrived around the age of 52, these included regular intense migraines, hot sweats during the night; having wet bedclothes a pool of sweat on my chest. A while after, I suffered day sweats and regularly experienced exceptionally low moods. I had gained a round tummy of belly fat and did not have particularly good self-esteem. I had no libido to speak of and was very dry down below. This affected my relationship at the time.
At the age of 53, with my symptoms worsening, I went to see my GP, and practically begged for some relief. I had tried all the alternative routes and spent money on many remedies from cooling bedding to homeopathic remedies etc. None of which solved the problem of my ever-increasing symptoms. I was given Novofem tablets, which seemed to work for a few months. I thought I was back on track. However, the night sweats and day sweats returned. I then visited my GP again and was given 2mg patches. These worked a little better, but they soon became unavailable and I spent many hours travelling to different chemists only to be told these patches were not available. I returned to my GP and all they could offer me, was the Novofem tablets – 1mg once again.
I started a new job in the City in the November and was not given any support and had to muddle through as best I could. I was very over-worked and at that time had trouble sleeping, so the new job and travel, along with the intense workload left me feeling extremely low. I was so tired and constantly worried. I often lay in bed at night with lots of negative thoughts running through my head, thinking of things from the past that I had not thought about in years, replaying upsetting events.
I felt I could not take any more and confided in my friend that I wondered if I would have to give up work, as by that time I was feeling near suicidal. I know that sounds very intense, but I had gone from a stable and happy individual to a person on the brink of depression.
A colleague at work had a chat with me, she could see that I had been left to struggle in my new role. I then confided in her about my mental health and symptoms. It turned out that she recognised a lot of the symptoms as menopausal and made me an appointment with Dr. Kalentzi. That was one year ago.
Since that time, Dr. Kalentzi has helped me immensely and my life is back on track. I am still in the same job; I have not suffered any mental health issues and my symptoms are under control. I sleep well and do not have negative thoughts, or no more than normal!
I have not had night sweats or day sweats for a long time and my body is returning to normal, weight wise. My libido has returned, and my body is back to what it used to be. I am happy again for the first time in a long time. This is all due to seeing Dr. Kalentzi who has been so exceedingly kind and understanding and very thorough throughout the whole process. I highly recommend any woman who is suffering symptoms of the menopause to make an appointment with Medical Prime straight away. It was one of the best health decisions I have ever made!
